- I just installed the new 4.0 software on my Flyer
- hoping to find a definite fix to certain anims
- playback problems encountered with Flyer .9.
-
- Under Flyer .9, LW anims would stutter
- occasionally and color hue would reverse during
- playback making these rendered VTASC LW anims
- useless. Newtek Tech was at first clueless but
- came out latter with an official explanation
- which was mosly blaming the unfinished and rushed
- LW/VTASC code to write anim. Well, I have tried
- today to re-render one of these problematic anims
- and there is still problem.
-
- Also, the anim doesn't stutter anymore, it shows
- obvious color banding artifacts on color
- gradients which make me think that these anims
- are not in the VTASC format but just Ham-8 or
- something with a limited color palette. Flyer .94
- anims were sometimes jittery but they looked
- really sharp. The color banding on Flyer 4.0
- anims looks pretty ugly and I still consider
- these rendered anims inapropriate for serious
- quality video work and that makes me mad...
-
- Not to mention all the quirks and bugs left in
- the video non-linear editing functions of the
- Flyer. Here are just a few of them:
-
- - Video playback stuttering and audio pops when
- sequencing video events with split audio/video
- tracks.
- - no visible update of the total program time
- which I, as an editor, consider critical.
- - CG keys don't fade IN/OUT
- - Sync to IN point/Clip options for audio clips
- not working
- - Chroma FX and overlays don't work properly
- - The new TPaint for Amiga 2000 is very buggy
- (also, I discovered the nice surprise of being
- able to paint with all the tools on a full screen
- image in HAM mode)
- - Sequencing CG crawls, rolls in Flyer projects
- not working well
- - Time Code capture seems to be only compatible
- with RS-232 connections which is a real bummer
- since most of the Industrial/Broadcast equipment
- these days outputs TC through an RS-422 port.
-
- The list goes on...
-
- I did not complained a second while running the
- 94 Gamma version but 4.0 has brought very few
- improvements to the Flyer's major flaws. I hope
- Newtek will react fast and will come up with
- fixes ASAP to make the Flyer a really competitive
- system in the non-linear jungle.
-
- Newtek... are you listening???
-
-
- (I apologize here for the hard core Lightwavers
- who do not tolerate any video related discussions
- on this newsgroup....)
-
- Thierry.
